Granbury
Middle School students showed their appreciation for the sacrifices of U.S.
armed forces veterans during an early commemoration of Veterans Day on November
9, 2015.
The
“Here’s to Our Heroes” program featured a color guard from the high school
JROTC unit and performances by the honors band and varsity choir.
Choir
students sang the National Anthem and “God Bless the USA,” while the band
performed “With Liberty for All” and “Marches of the Armed Forces.”
Students
read essays about the importance of the national observance and also addressed
the history of each branch of the military – recognizing those in attendance
for their service.
The
special speaker was state senator Brian Birdwell, a decorated military veteran
who served in Operation Desert Storm and later worked on the Department of the
Army staff at the Pentagon. Birdwell was
severally injured when a hijacked plane crashed into the building on September
11, 2001.
