The Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team claimed the title of “Best in the State” at the 2015 Texas State JROTC Air Rifle Championships on December 4-5, 2015, at Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio.

The state-winning precision team was composed of Cody Bogle, Freeman Hawker, Kayla Hitshew, and Trinity Hathaway. A second squad placed second overall and was comprised of shooters Chris Hitshew, Katherine Lambert, Tyler Morrissette, and Brittney Pinckard. In addition to the state title, Granbury captured the Texas Governor’s Cup in the competition for the first-place Marine team in the precision category.

Bogle was first in the individual competition, while Hawker claimed a bronze medal. Others among the top eight shooters in the precision finals were Hathaway, Kayla Hitshew, and Pinckard.

On the sporter team were Grant Kinser, Ethan Patterson, Elizabeth Plecity, and Jakob Rankin. The team earned first place among all Marine Corps teams and took home the Texas Governor’s Cup for their division.

“Our kids dominated the competition this weekend," commented Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor. "The momentum we gained this weekend should serve us well as we shoot in several national-level qualifying matches over the next few weeks.”

The San Antonio contest featured over 150 shooters representing all-service JROTC units from across the state over the two-day competition. Pictured above are (left to right) Katharine Lambert, Trinity Hathaway, Elizabeth Plecity, Brittney Pinckard, Kayla Hitshew, Tyler Morrissette, Cody Bogle, Freeman Hawker, Grant Kinser, Chris Hitshew, Jakob Rankin, and Ethan Patterson.

The team will next compete at the Junior Olympic Qualifier meet on January 9 at Texas Christian University.
