Several Granbury ISD construction projects are set
to open when students return from Spring Break on March 21, 2016.
New gymnasiums will be ready at Acton Elementary
School and Emma Roberson Elementary School, providing more equitable space for
physical education classes. The attached
additions also ensure improved security for those campuses. Acton’s gym is already open, but the Roberson
addition is taking longer because of demolition of an older facility. Once the gym is complete, the Roberson PTO
will continue work on the parking lot expansion.
For Granbury High School, chief among projects is
the long-anticipated reopening of the Bagby-McMahan Performing Arts
Center. New seating has already been
installed with major upgrades of the sound and lighting systems. Also open at the high school will be new
locker rooms for baseball, softball, and tennis teams.
Other
construction projects were recently completed over the winter and early spring. These include new chemistry labs and new
space for the Marine Corps JROTC program.
The cadets now have new classrooms, supply and uniform room, and a large
competition rifle range.
Last
fall, students returned to GHS with the new Crossland Academic Wing in the
front of the building plus a completely renovated cafeteria and coffee bar, the
Learning Commons (library), expanded space for fine arts programs, plus office and
counseling space. Work continues on the career
and technical education addition, and, during the summer, demolition and
construction will progress in older parts of the building not previously
renovated. When school begins in August,
all principal work will be completed, and the high school will welcome both the
Class of 2019 and Class of 2020 to make it a full 9-12 campus.
Controlled
entries were complete at K-8 campuses during the fall of 2014, and the high
school entry was made secure with the addition of the ninth grade academic
wing.
Regarding
technology, the investment in model classroom, technology devices, and
infrastructure is ongoing. At K-8
campuses, classrooms have SMART Boards, projectors, document cameras, classroom
audio, mounts and cables, and virtual desktop storage. More wireless access points have been added
at these schools, and work on the high school will continue through the
summer. A fiber optic wide area network
to increase bandwidth at all campuses is complete.
