May 24, 2016

Chancellor Robert Chancellor, a junior in the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC program, has been selected to attend the Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy to be held on July 17-23, 2016, in the Washington D.C. area.

Cadet Chancellor was of only 150 high school students selected from hundreds of applicants from across the country, according to Senior Marine Instructor Lt. Col. Scott Casey.

The SLCDA is a week-long program that provides top-performing high school students an opportunity to receive leadership training, character development, lessons on ethics, and college admissions guidance from experienced Marine officers.  The program, which also includes a community service component, will primarily be held in Quantico, Virginia.

Key components of the program are team building, leadership and ethics case studies and activities, and daily physical fitness classes.  Participants will hear from distinguished speakers and also tour sites in the nation’s capital.

The Comanche Peak Detachment 1297 of the Marine Corps League is providing a $1,000 scholarship to Cade Chancellor to cover the cost of transportation and other expenses.
