The Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team dominated competition at the State Three-Position Air Rifle Junior Olympic Championships held across Texas during February-April 2016.

Granbury High School was represented by Cody Bogle, Freeman Hawker, Kayla Hitshew, and Katherine Lambert.

The competition includes shoulder-to-shoulder matches held on the local level.  Participation in these matches can earn athletes the opportunity to compete at the National 3PAR Championship, which is a combined event with the National 3PAR Junior Olympic Championship and the Civilian Marksmanship Program National Championship held annually during the summer months.

At the state competition, the Granbury team shot a 2331 out of a possible 2400 points placing them first, edging out El Paso Del Valle by 13 points.   Additionally, Bogle led the squad with a team high, finishing the competition with a bronze medal as an individual shooter. The event was a 3×20 air rifle event hosted at the new GHS air rifle range on February 26-27.

“What a great way to finish out the school year. I’m very of proud how the team ended on such a strong note,” commented Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor.  “If this is any indication of what next year will bring, I can’t wait and I’m ready for next season to start.”

The rifle team will next participate in the CMP Camp on June 6-10 at Acton Middle School.
