JROTC RIFLE TEAM OPENS SEASON AT LUBBOCK CONTEST
September 13, 2016

The Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team opened
the 2016-17 season finishing second and third at a Lubbock High School
competition on September 10, 2016.
Kayla Hitshew led the way in the precision
competition with a season high score of 582, which was good for second place
out of 25 shooters. Freeman Hawker (571,
eighth) and Brittney Pinckard (569, ninth) also landed in the top ten. Also receiving individual awards were: Hitshew,
who earned second place in the prone position and third place in the kneeling
position; and Hawker, who won third place in the prone position.
“This was a great start to the season,” commented
Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor. “We lost some great shooters last year due to
graduation, but I’m impressed with how the underclassmen have stepped up this
year.”
Casey continued, “Sophomore standout Elizabeth
Plecity is one to watch, as she earned her spot on the top team and helped us
bring home silver. Likewise, freshman
Clarissa Layland is another newcomer to the team who shot a personal best –
only five points away from making the top team.”
Granbury cadets participating were:
- Precision Team 1: Kayla Hitshew, Freeman Hawker, Elizabeth Plecity, Trinity Hathaway.
- Precision Team 2: Brittney Pinckard, Clarissa Layland, Jakob Rankin, Allison Henery.
- Precision Team 3: John Broughton, Jaxon Golden, Tamara Peters, Colin Pieren
“We have a deep bench this year and that is
exciting to have new members of the squad shooting very high scores in their
first match,” Casey said.
GHS returns to action on October 13-15 in the team’s
first home match.
