Granbury High School students Alex Duckett and Brock Holmgreen have been selected to attend the Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy to be held on July 15-20, 2019, in the Washington D.C. area.
Duckett, a sophomore, and Holmgreen, a junior, were two of only two hundred high school students selected from over a thousand applicants from across the country. Chosen based on the whole person concept by a board of Marines, nominees must have demonstrated a desire to lead and develop oneself.
The SLCDA is a week-long program that provides top-performing high school students an opportunity to receive leadership training, character development, lessons on ethics, and college admissions guidance from experienced Marine officers. The program, which also includes a community service component, will primarily be held in Quantico, Virginia.
Key components of the program are team building, leadership and ethics case studies and activities, and daily physical fitness classes. Participants will hear from distinguished speakers and also tour sites in the nation’s capital.
Holmgreen will also be attending the Youth Leadership Conference this summer. That program is sponsored by the Military Order of the World Wars.
