November 13, 2019 

Granbury High School senior Philip Becker, a cadet in the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC, signed a letter of intent to join the rifle team at Ohio State University during a ceremony on November 13, 2019, at GHS. 

The Buckeyes compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Patriot Rifle Conference.  The Big Ten college is located in Columbus. 

“We are very happy to have another rifle team member earn a spot on a college team,” commented Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor and rifle team coach. 

A member of a national champion rifle team, Becker attended the High School Aerospace Scholars program this summer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Last school year, the GHS senior received the Commander Burns Academic Excellence Award and earned induction into the National Honor Society. Becker was named Wingstop High School Scholar Athlete of the Month in September, receiving a $3,000 scholarship. 

The GHS senior was joined by his parents, John and Michelle Becker, as well as Lt. Col. Casey, First Sergeant Johnny Rositas, rifle team members, and friends.
