JROTC CADETS CELEBRATE MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY

November 11, 2020

Marine Corps Birthday

Granbury Marine Corps JROTC cadets celebrated the 245th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps during a ceremony on November 10, 2020, at Granbury High School.

The ceremony included the cutting of a birthday cake as well as the reading of a message from General David H. Berger, the Commandant of the Marine Corps.  Tradition includes the first piece being presented to the oldest Marine (or cadet) present.  Then, the oldest Marine in turn passes it on to the youngest Marine (or cadet) signifying the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young of the Corps.

Instructors for the Granbury unit are Lt. Col. Scott Casey and First Sergeant Johnny Rositas.

Pictured is the battalion commander, Cadet Lt. Col. Rudy Obina, cutting the birthday cake.  Obina was the oldest cadet, and he presented a piece of cake to the youngest cadet, Cadet Private First Class Ryan Davila.
