JROTC RIFLE TEAM CAPTURES COMANCHE PEAK CUP
March 30, 2021
Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team squads captured first place at the Comanche Peak Cup match on March 25-27, 2021, at Granbury High School.
In addition to the first-place prize, GHS teams also won third and seventh in the precision shooting team category.
Parker Haydin led the Pirates in the precision individual competition with a score of 592, leading the field of sixty shooters and placing him first overall. Sara Folsom also made the podium placing in third overall with 591.
In addition to Haydin and Folsom, Granbury had five of the top eight shooters. Others included: Ashton Arlington, fourth; Kaylynn Slaughter, sixth; Sunnee Schumann, seventh.
"This was a great match for the team," commented Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor and rifle team coach. "This match is just a precursor to our national level matches we will shoot over the next few weeks. Our goal of getting on the podium at the JROTC Nationals has not changed and with the scores the cadets are shooting– we will be looking good for another run at the national championship."
Members of the GHS rifle team are: Ashton Arlington, Julia Czernik, Alexis De La Pena, Sarah Folsom, Tye Foster, Parker Haydin, Jonathan Hutchison, Caroline Martin, Cadince McGrath, Sunnee Schumann, Kaylynn Slaughter, and Kameron Wells.
