Cadet Lt. Colonel Rudy Obina, battalion commander of the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC, has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. The announcement was made on April 29, 2021. 

The Granbury High School senior will attend the academy in the fall as he pursues a four-year degree and a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps. 

As the undergraduate college of our country’s naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion. 

“We are very happy to have another cadet join the ranks at the Naval Academy,” commented Lt. Col. Scott Casey, the Senior Marine Instructor at GHS. 

USNA students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with Bachelor of Science degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Graduates serve at least five years in the Navy or Marine Corps. 

“Rudy has always been interested in the Navy and the Marine Corps as a career, and this appointment is an honor,” Casey said.  “He will do great things making us all proud.” 

Obina will join former Granbury cadet – now Midshipman Clarissa Layland, who is a rising sophomore at the Naval Academy.
