A Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team won the Marine Corps Service Championships for the fifth year during a competition held February 3-5, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona. 

Granbury High School was represented by Ashton Arlington, Julia Czernik, Sarah Folsom, Tye Foster, Parker Haydin, Caroline Martin, Cadince McGrath, Sunnee Schumann, Kaylynn Slaughter, Kameron Wells, and Kennedy Wells. 

The Pirate A team of Arlington, Folsom, Haydin, and Martin set a new national record and a Marine Corps record with their first-day shooting, which left them 53 points ahead of the second-place team – the Pirate B team of Czernik, Schumann, Slaughter, and Kameron Wells.  Rounding out the competition on day two, the A team posted a 93-point lead to win the championship with the GHS B team placed second. 

Both squads are advancing to the All-Service national championship on March 17-19 at Camp Perry, Ohio. 

Individually, seven of the top eight shooters were from Granbury:  Arlington, Folsom, Foster, Haydin, Martin, Schumman, and Slaughter. 

Additionally, 7 of the 8 shooters making finals were from the Granbury squad.  Pirates making finals were Haydin, Arlington, Schumann, Martin, Foster, Slaughter and Folsom.  During a very exciting finals, Haydin dominated the competition and won gold for the championship.  He was joined on the podium by Slaughter and Arlington, who placed second and third respectively.
