Cadet Lt. Colonel Sarah Folsom was crowned the Ultimate Female Fitness National Champion following the National JROTC Fitness Challenge on April 15, 2022, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Folsom, a Granbury High School senior and battalion commander of the school JROTC, is a member of Pirate Nation Physical Training (PT) Team that competed in the national contest. She was selected as national champion out of a field of over one hundred female cadets.
The All-Service National JROTC Championships highlighted the hardest working JROTC teams in the nation. The contest attracted many of the best male, female, and mixed JROTC fitness teams in the country.
Each team of nine cadets (six male and three female) competed in five events including a 3-kilometer run on the beach while carrying a ten-foot PVC pipe followed by a physical training event designed to test the strength, balance, stamina, strategy, and endurance of the team over a distance of 800 meters using a variety of physical obstacles. Other events included maximum pull-ups for males, flexed-arm hang for females, standing broad jump, and a seated power throw of a 2-kilogram medicine ball.
Following her GHS graduation, Folsom will be heading to the United States Military Academy at West Point to commence her professional military career.
