The Granbury High School Pirate Band won sweepstakes for the sixth straight
year after receiving Division I superior ratings at the UIL Region 7 concert
and sightreading contest held April 20-21, 2016, at Burleson High School.
varsity wind ensemble received the top ratings from all judges for both concert
and sightreading performances. Combined with
the regional marching contest in October 2015, the band won the top prize
with Division I ratings in all three parts of music competition.
the concert, the wind ensemble performed “The Melody Shop March” by Karl King
and arranged by Andrew Glover, “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger, and “Kingfisher’s
Catch Fire” by John Mackey.
junior varsity symphonic band also received superior ratings in both concert
and sightreading. Its stage performance
included “His Honor March” by Henry Fillmore, “As Summer Was Just Beginning” by
Larry Daehn, and “English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
students were under the direction of Mark Eastin, who was assisted by Tahlequah
Kirk and James Beeson.
wind ensemble next performs at the Peak Music Festival on Thursday, May 5 at
the Charles W. Eisemann Center in Richardson.
