GHS BAND EARNS SUPERIOR RATING AT UIL COMPETITION

GHS Pirate Band

The GHS Pirate Band earned a Division I rating at the UIL region marching contest at Saginaw Chisholm Trail High School’s Ranger Stadium on October 15, 2019. 

The “Next Stage” marching show received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 5A and 6A groups in the region of the Texas Music Educators Association.  The rating allows the band to advance to area competition on Saturday, October 26 at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletic Complex. 

The marching ensemble also earned high marks at the Bands of America West Texas Regional Championship on October 12.  Placing ninth overall among mostly Class 6A groups, Granbury was third in its competition class and earned a caption award for best visual performance.

Following area, Granbury will compete in at the BOA San Antonio Super Regional Championship on Saturday, November 2 at the Alamodome. 

The band boasts 210 members, including 40 in the drumline and battery and another 15 in the color guard.  “Next Stage” features the music of Phillip Glass and Imogen Heap.

The Pride of Granbury is under the direction of Mark Eastin, Tahlequah Kirk, Shane O’Brien, Katelyn Johnson, and color guard instructor Maggie Meroney.  

Drum majors are seniors Kylie Eastin and Jackson Griffith along with junior Hannah Branum.  Also serving in band leadership positions are color guard captains Melinda Beeson and Ashley Green.  For the Pirate Drumline, Kyla Asante-Wiredu is battery captain and Mason Hadley is front ensemble captain.
