The GHS Pirate Band was among the top Class 5A bands in Area F, advancing to the UIL competition finals on October 26, 2019, at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex.
Granbury was one of ten schools selected for the finals after preliminary performances by 24 bands. The Pirate Band was not among the four chosen to advance to the state level, placing fifth in the evening finals competition.
The band previously earned a Division I superior rating at the UIL Region 30 marching competition on October 15 at Saginaw Chisholm Trail High School. The “Next Stage” marching show received the top rating from all three judges, who evaluated both Class 5A and 6A groups in the region of the Texas Music Educators Association.
Next on the schedule is one final competition – the Bands of America Super Regional on Saturday, November 2 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The Pride of Granbury is under the direction of Mark Eastin, Tahlequah Kirk, Shane O’Brien, Katelyn Johnson, and color guard instructor Maggie Meroney.
Drum majors are seniors Kylie Eastin and Jackson Griffith along with junior Hannah Branum. Also serving in band leadership positions are color guard captains Melinda Beeson and Ashley Green. For the Pirate Drumline, Kyla Asante-Wiredu is battery captain and Mason Hadley is front ensemble captain.
