The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees approved facility improvement projects during its regular monthly meeting on January 14, 2020.

The projects total $1,073,000 and are part of a $5 million allocation previously adopted by trustees.  In November, trustees approved two welded steel ground storage tanks as well as roof replacement of the James Wann Sports Center at Granbury High School.

The newly approved projects to completed during the summer include: renovation of the former STARS building on Acton School Road to be an employee day care; exterior improvements to Acton Elementary School, Brawner Intermediate School, and STEAM Academy at Mambrino; renovation of classrooms at Emma Roberson Elementary School for the forthcoming early learning academy for full-day pre-kindergarten; title replacement at Granbury Middle School; renovation of conference room at Acton Middle School; a new guard shack at GHSl; weight room equipment and new public address system in the James Wann Sports Center; and digital marquees for Baccus, Brawner, and the old administration building site at the corners of Morgan and Pearl Streets.

Board members also approved the donation of easement to the City of Granbury for an outer-loop walking trail around Acton Middle School.  The city parks and recreation department is pursuing grant funding for various phases of the project, which will extend the hike and bike trail from the Hood County YMCA around the AMS perimeter.  In the future, the trail will connect with the school’s Outdooring Learning Center.

Trustees adopted the 2020-21 school calendar with a start date of Tuesday, August 18, 2020.  Administration may modify dates for Spring Break based on dates selected by Tarleton State University, which has not yet released its calendar.  The new calendar is available at www.granburyisd.org/calendar

In personnel, trustees approved the appointment of new teachers at GHS, AES, and Roberson.  The board also received notification of retirements and resignations.  Board members also completed a formative evaluation for the superintendent as well as requests for catastrophic leave.

For the spring semester, board members approved stipends for teachers who cover other classes during conference periods and also additional pay for substitute teachers working on Fridays.
