The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on April 20, 2020. The virtual meeting was held via Zoom because of the school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trustees adopted temporary modifications of district policy on April 20, 2020, to address grading, Grade Point Averages, and class ranks for Granbury High School students. These modifications were necessary due to the school closure since March 16.
The policy modifications are:
Class rank for seniors will be determined by grades through the 4th Six Weeks.
Grades for current juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will be noted as “pass” or “fail” on transcripts.
Going forward, Grade Point Averages for current juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will not include the Spring 2020 semester. Instead, the GPAs for these students will be calculated on seven semesters while they are in high school.
Advanced Academic Credits will be awarded for all students passing those courses during Spring 2020.
Normal district policy will apply again for the 2020-21 school year, except for current juniors, sophomores, and freshmen as listed above.
Board members approved pre-licensing documents and procedures for the Little Buccaneers GISD Staff Childcare Center. The center for GISD staff children will open for the 2020-21 school year.
In personnel, trustees approved contract extensions for teachers, diagnosticians, counselors, speech therapists, librarians, nurses, and other campus professionals. The board approved some staff appointments of new employees and also received a list of employees resigning or retiring at the end of the current school year.
Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn addressing school board regarding the actions since school closure began on March 16 - meals through child nutrition department, virtual instruction and Chromebook distribution through campuses as well as curriculum and technology departments. Dr. Glenn also thanked employees for hard work in implementing all necessary programs to support students and parents during closure. Supt also thanked community partners for working to help schools during this time.
The board approved minutes from the last regular meeting and budget amendments. Trustees also approved a board meeting calendar through June 2021 as well as bids for athletic supplies and equipment and HVAC supplies and equipment. In other business, trustees reviewed financial, cash flow, investment, and categorical expense reports for March 2020.
Trustees also reviewed a report on campus project change orders. Many facility projects including painting and other building work will be completed during the summer, according to assistant superintendent Dobie Williams.
Donations reported to the board include almost $70,000 from the Acton Elementary PTO for new playground equipment.
Trustees next convene for a workshop on Wednesday, April 22. Board meetings are held in the GISD Board Room located in the Administration Building at 217 N. Jones Street.
