GISD SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES HEAR REPORT ON STAFF CHILDCARE CENTER
March 23, 2021
The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees heard a report on the district’s childcare center for employee children during its regular monthly meeting on March 22, 2021.
Updating trustees was Tiffany Rodriguez, district child care coordinator, and Karly Middlebrook, director of the Little Buccaneers GISD Staff Childcare Center. The center currently has 52 children enrolled, and enrollment has begun for the 2021-22 school year. Children are grouped by age level with rooms staffed by childcare workers who follow age-appropriate curriculum to help with child development and learning. The center plans to work towards becoming a Texas Rising Star Center.
The board approved a tuition amount of $4,100 for children of district employees to attend full-day pre-kindergarten at the Emma Roberson Early Learning Academy in the 2021-22 school year. This charge is only for those students who do not qualify for pre-kindergarten under state guidelines, which are largely income-based. Employees who participate have the option to pay out the tuition through regular payroll deductions. The tuition amount will be reviewed annually, according to GISD superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn, who also stated that he hoped to open the PK academy up in future years to other community children on a paid tuition basis.
Trustees adopted local policy changes recommend in Update 116 by the Texas Associaiton of School Boards. The policy changes pertain to cybersecurity training, medical treatment of students, and conduct on school premises by community members.
Board members extended the bank depository contract with PlainsCapital Bank through the 2021-23 biennium.
Regarding personnel, the board approved contract extensions for teachers, counselors, librarians, nurses, and other campus professional staff members. Board members received notification of employees resigning or retiring at the end of the school year. Trustees also approved an employee’s second request for catastrophic leave.
