Granbury ISD Board of Trustees

The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees amended district COVID-19 protocols to allow for the optional wearing of masks and face coverings during its regular monthly meeting on April 12, 2021.

While recommending the use of masks, trustees cited the low number of COVID-19 cases among students and staff in making the protocol change.  The board also authorized the administration to review and make necessary changes to “close contact” guidelines for those exposed to an infected individual.

Board members approved $42,000 for the purchase of a used airplane for the district career and technical education program.  The 1963 Cessna C-172D single-engine plane will be utilized in the expanding aviation program of study at Granbury High School.  CTE department officials opted against a plane approved for purchase in February due to mechanical deficiencies.

Trustees adopted a resolution to nominate superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn as Superintendent of the Year.  Through the program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards, the initial nomination goes to the Region 11 Education Service Center.

The board amended the current 2020-21 school year to designate Thursday, May 20, 2021, as an early dismissal day for the last day of the school year.

Regarding personnel, the board approved non-probationary contract extensions for teachers and other professional staff members. Board members received notification of employees resigning or retiring at the end of the school year.

Reports to the board included:

  • Dr. Glenn provided an update on the G2025 strategic plan.  The superintendent also stated that the district would soon be recording school board meetings and posting the videos online with the project eventually to be undertaken by Granbury High School students enrolled in audio/visual classes.
  • Portable buildings currently at the administration building will be repurposed and moved for campus.  Two will be moved to Acton Elementary School, while the other two will go to Brawner Elementary School.
  • Dobie Williams, assistant superintendent for finance and operations, presented financial statements, cash flow reports, and categorical expenses reports for March 2021.

In other business, trustees approved minutes from the last regular meeting and budget amendments. Bids and other purchases approved were: contracts through the Region 11 Education Service Center; HVAC and refrigeration supplies and equipment; instructional textbooks.  Board members approved out-of-state travel for CTE department staff to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for a fly-in event in July 2021.

Donations reported to the board included: $1,834 from MIDWAY USA to the Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team for additional rifle gear; $850.85 from First National Bank of Granbury to Oak Woods School for student recognition yard signs.

Trustees next convene for the regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 17, 2021.  Board meetings are held in the GISD Board Room in the Administration Building at 217 N. Jones Street.
