GISD SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES APPROVE PURCHASE OF PROPERTY ADJACENT TO OAK WOODS

May 18, 2021

Granbury ISD Board of Trustees

The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees purchased property adjacent to Oak Woods School during its regular monthly meeting on May 17, 2021.

The property consists of 10.38 acres located at 320 Warnick Court and 305 Davis Road next to the school.  According to superintendent Dr. Jeremy Glenn, the purchase will also for a loop around the building to help with traffic congestion while improving campus security and allowing for future expansion.  Discussions with the property owner have evolved over several years, and both parties recently settled on an agreeable purchase price.  The board action included adoption of a resolution and leeway for the superintendent to modify the closing date.

Board members nominated trustee Dr. Paula McDonald for a Region 11 seat on the board of directors for the Texas Association of School Boards.

Regarding personnel, trustees approved salary and pay schedules for the 2021-22 contract year.  The schedules follow recommendations from a TASB salary and staffing study conducted in early 2020 but put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, when future state funding levels were not certain.  Specific pay increases for GISD employees will be considered later in the summer.

Also in personnel, board members approved several staff appointments for the 2021-22 school year and received notification of employees resigning or retiring at the end of the school year.

Reports to the board included:

  • Dr. Glenn praised district staff for making it through the school year and overcoming many hurdles because of the pandemic.  He also discussed upcoming graduation events for Granbury High School and STARS Accelerated High School.
  • Dobie Williams, assistant superintendent for finance and operations, presented financial statements and cash flow reports for April 2021.

In other business, trustees approved minutes from the last regular meeting as well as budget amendments. In other business, the board approved certification of instructional materials, a memorandum of understanding with Tarleton State University regarding a work study program to mentor and counsel high school students, a waiver allowing for six foreign exchange students, and a local policy change regarding pandemic-related grant opportunities through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III Fund.  Board members also extended a partnership agreement with Upbring Head Start to administer the program at Emma Roberson Early Learning Academy.

Out-of-state travel requests approved were:  Stowaways spring trip to Nashville in March 2022; Granbury Marine Corps JROTC rifle team competition to Anniston, Alabama in July 2021.

Donations reported to the board included: $250 from First National Bank of Granbury for Acton Middle School cheerleaders; $500 from the Granbury Optimist Club for the DECA student organization at GHS; $1,000 from Optimists for the Stowaways dance and drill team; $400 from Pecan Baptist Church to STEAM Academy at Mambrino for meal vouchers; $100 from Callie Travers for HOSA student organization at GHS; $1,000 from Barry Smith for the JROTC; $1,000 from Rod and Sue Heitschmidt for meal vouchers; $410.21 from Campus Box Media for GHS cheerleaders.

Trustees next convene for a demographic workshop on Tuesday, May 18 and the regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 21.  Board meetings are held in the GISD Board Room in the Administration Building at 217 N. Jones Street.
