Driver's Education

The Granbury ISD community education office announced traditional driver’s education classes beginning in September and November 2019.

For the traditional program, the full course takes 8-12 weeks to complete, and there is a limit to 36 students per class.

Classroom instruction totaling 32 hours will be held from 4:45-6:45 P.M. each weekday in GHS 605 at Granbury High School.  This portion will be followed by 14 hours of driving and observation, with the schedule to be set by the instructor with each student. Sessions will take eight to ten weeks to complete.

A course beginning on Monday, September 24 will be led by Donny Wiley.  A second class beginning on Monday, November 11 will be taught by John Horak.

Priority will be given to Granbury ISD students. Those who are not enrolled with GISD have the option of being placed on a waiting list, and, if room is available by the class start date, they will be notified of acceptance into the class.  To be put on the waiting list, applicants must submit the registration form and payment.  If space is not available for the student in the class, they will be able to pick up the registration form along with the form of payment.

GISD also offers a dynamic program that allows students to complete the instructional portion online through Virtual Drive of Texas.  This option provides flexibility for students involved in after-school activities.  Once the online instruction is complete, the student will undergo the driving portion with a GISD instructor.

In order to qualify for either the traditional or dynamic programs, students must be 15 years old at the time of registration and must have attended school for a minimum of 80 days the previous semester before the class start date.

Fees are $275 for the traditional program and $240 for the dynamic program.  A separate option is a drive only program for $140 with students completing instruction on their own and only going through the driving portion with GISD.

Registration forms should be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian and returned to the GISD community education office with the enrollment fee.  Forms are available in the offices at GHS and the community education office.  In addition, forms are also available on the GISD website at

Registration is currently being accepted at the community education office, which is in the GISD Administration Building located at 217 N. Jones Street.  The office will accept applications Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
