NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS JOINING CAMPUS LEADERSHIP

Granbury ISD New Assistant Principals

Four Granbury ISD schools will begin the 2021-22 school year with new campus administrators. 

Acton Elementary School 

Leah Dawson is moving from the library to the front office at Acton Elementary School along with current principal Karla Willmeth and assistant principal Maggie Walton. 

Dawson began teaching second grade at AES in 2008 and became the school librarian in 2012.  She previously taught in Borger and Plainview from 1994 until 2001 before moving to Granbury.  Dawson received a bachelor’s degree in education from Abilene Christian University and later earned a master’s degree in library science from Texas Woman’s University. 

Brawner Elementary School 

At Brawner Elementary School, Sandy Ruiz is the new assistant principal working with principal Jincy Ross.  She succeeds Heather Boisjolie, who is now the principal of STEAM Academy at Mambrino. 

Ruiz has been the Brawner instructional specialist since 2007.  She previously was the dyslexia coordinator for the Coahoma school district.  From 2000 until 2014, Ruiz taught elementary grade levels in Colorado City, Big Spring, and Coahoma.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Angelo State University and later earned a master’s degree in education from Lamar University. 

Granbury Middle School 

Moving from instructional specialist to assistant principal at Granbury Middle School is Janice Mueller. She joins new principal Dr. Andy Smith and current assistant principal Dr. Troy Volkmann. 

Mueller joined the GMS staff in 2008 in the instructional support role.  She began educational career in 1993, teaching various elementary and middle school grades in California, Colorado, and Illinois.  From 2014 until 2018, Mueller served as an instructional support coordinator and assistant principal in Colorado Springs.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Denver. 

Oak Woods School 

Lissa Oliver is the assistant principal at Oak Woods School, where she succeeds new principal Chelsey Gibson. 

Oliver previously was the campus instructional specialist and librarian.  She joined GISD in 2008 and taught English at both Granbury High School and Acton Middle School before moving to the Oak Woods library in 2011.  Oliver graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and later received a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of North Texas.
