Students from Granbury High School and Acton Elementary School as well as three Granbury ISD employees were recognized for their personal achievements by the Granbury Masonic Lodge No. 392 during a presentation at the Granbury ISD school board meeting on April 12, 2021.
Representing the Masonic Lodge, Gary Merritt praised the six recipients of the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award. Named for one of the presidents of the Republic of Texas, the honor is bestowed on outstanding achievers who have overcome personal difficulties or hardships as well as those who accept the challenge to excel in helping make our communities, state, and nation stronger.
Honored for 2020 were Acton Elementary School student Hannah Weber, Granbury Middle School librarian Christy Jonas, and Granbury High School teacher Melissa Knight. These awards were not presented last during due to the school building closure resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
For 2021, honorees were GHS students Wesley Barefoot and Holly Hodges along with GHS teacher Melinda Rose.
Merritt praised each honoree for their accomplishments, as he awarded each of them a certificate and medal.
