SSC CUSTODIAL GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO KEEP SCHOOLS SAFE
October 7, 2020
With the COVID-19 pandemic, Granbury ISD joined with its custodial partner, SSC Services for Education, to implement a rigorous schedule for disinfecting all school buildings that goes above and beyond normal procedures that normally involve cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and other general tasks.
SSC conducts regular training for all staff and provides dependable supervision to ensure quality implementation of enhanced protocols. Schedules for custodial staff has been prioritized for risk mitigation of COVID-19 in GISD schools.
Daytime staff have modified schedules to focus on high-traffic areas and high-touch items such as door handles, light switches, stairway handrails, bathroom fixtures, cafeteria tables and chairs, and more. Some items are sanitized hourly, while many others are cleaned several times per day.
Custodians fog classrooms, libraries, computer labs, and other student areas daily with disinfectant solution. Particular focus areas include athletic locker rooms and the new district childcare center. Gyms and other inside athletic venues are fogged following competitions and practices.
For student holidays and days when staff will be out of the building, a stronger solution of the fogging mixture is used in all areas.
Pictured is SSC unit director Gerald McTyre operating a small fogging device, which has a 3-hour battery life and can disinfect up to 42 classrooms.
