Members of the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees attended the joint convention of the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas Association of School Administrators on September 28-30, 2012, in Austin to receive required training along with school board members from across the state.

Attending from Granbury was superintendent Dr. James Largent along with the board members – president Micky Shearon, vice president Mark Jackson, secretary Nancy Alana, Dr. Barbara Herrington, Wade Railsback, and Don Walton. 

Participants attended both general and break-out sessions on various topics covering the responsibilities of school board members. 

Keynote speakers were LeVar Burton, an actor and literacy advocate; General William “Bill” Looney, retired career fighter pilot and leader of numerous units within the U.S. Air Force; and Diane Ravitch, a research professor of education at New York University and former Assistant Secretary of Education.

Texas state law requires that school board members receive continuing education and training annually. Trustees may fulfill those requirements at TASB conferences, at seminars conducted by education service centers, or at other training sessions held throughout the year.
