HERRINGTON PARTICIPTING IN SCHOOL BOARD LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
October 12, 2012
Dr. Barbara Herrington, a member of the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees, joined 35 other school board members from across Texas for the kickoff of the Leadership TASB Class of 2013 during the association’s convention on September 27-30, 2012.
Selected by the Texas Association of School Boards, the group is participating in a year-long education leadership study program. These trustees represent school districts of all sizes with student populations ranging from 262 to 62,000. They also reflect districts of varying property wealth.
Participants who complete all required elements of the study will graduate next year by earning Master Trustee status, which is the highest designation recognized by TASB.
During the convention, the trustees heard featured speakers. Dr. Peter DeLisle, director of the Posey Leadership Institute at Austin College, focused on leadership and teambuilding. A nationally known motivational speaker, Debra Fine is the author of The Fine Art of Small Talk. Board members also received training at convention sessions and attended the TASB Delegate Assembly, the association’s annual business meeting.
Other Leadership TASB sessions are scheduled for San Marcos (November 8-10), Corpus Christi (March 7-8), Texarkana (April 18-20), and Fort Worth (June 13-15). Each session has a unique theme that builds on the previous session and features nationally recognized experts in the fields of leadership development and education. Teams also work throughout the year on extended learning assignments between meetings.
Created in 1993, Leadership TABS has almost 700 graduates to date.
Herrington has served on the GISD school board since May 2005.
