JROTC CADETS COMPETE IN MARKMANSHIP COMPETITION

Several Marine Corps JROTC cadets from Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center competed in the 6th Annual William J. Bordelon Air Rifle Tournament and the Civilian Marksmanship Program state championship tournament on October 19, 2012, at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio.

“This match was the first competition for the team, and they did an outstanding job in their first high profile match,” commented instructor Col. Scott Casey.

The team was composed of junior Rebecca Anderson (captain), sophomores Hunter Dowell and Stephen Schofield, and freshman Haydon Rudd. Anderson led the team with a total score of 489 out of 600, placing 28th in the field of 126 shooters. Overall, the team posted a score of 1835 and finished 12th among the 25 teams.

A second squad composed of freshmen Timothy Correa, Bryton Mize, and Tyler Morrissette competed as individual shooters.

The competition consisted of air rifle position shooting twenty shots in the prone position, twenty shots in the standing position, and twenty shots in the kneeling position.
