JROTC cadets from Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center celebrated the 238th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps during a ceremony on November 11, 2013, at GHS.

The ceremony included the cutting of a birthday cake as well as the reading of a message from General James F. Amos, the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Tradition includes the first piece being presented to the oldest Marine (or cadet) present. Then, the oldest Marine in turn passes it on to the youngest Marine (or cadet) signifying the passing of experience and knowledge from the old to the young of the Corps.

Prior to the birthday celebration, thirty freshman cadets received promotions – the highest number in the unit’s history.

Instructors for the Granbury unit are Lt. Col. Scott Casey and First Sergeant Johnny Rositas.
