Baccus Garden

A team of teachers and volunteers spent a workday building a new garden at Nettie Baccus Elementary School on April 12, 2014.

The workday included building four raised cinder block flower beds, painting a mural, and assembling four outdoor tables.

Lowe's Toolbox for Education With the Green Thumb Project, each student will be planting an individual flower in the garden, and grade levels will be responsible for the maintenance of their sections following earth science curriculum and seasonal planting guidelines to learn how to sow a garden according to the natural cycle.

The $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant was awarded last May by the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. The application was submitted by a parent and assistant principal DeAnna Bledsoe.

Pictured above at the workday were (left to right) counselor Betty White and teachers Lori Ramirez, Ashley Page, and Pam Carver.
