A girls doubles pair from Granbury High School is headed back to the Class 4A state tennis tournament after advancing from the Region I-4A tourney on April 14-15, 2014, in Abilene.

GHS seniors Kate Bramlett and Elizabeth Morton placed second in the regional competition at the Rose Park Tennis Center after defeating Canyon Randall (3-6, 7-5, 6-2) in a playback game.

On the first day of the regional tourney, the girls dominated their competition, besting El Paso Hanks (6-0, 6-0), Wichita Falls (6-1, 6-1), and Lubbock’s second team (6-2, 6-1). The Granbury girls fell to Lubbock’s top team (3-6, 6-4, 4-6) in the finals on the morning of the second day, requiring them to take on Canyon Randall in the playback match.

This will be the second year in a row for the pair, who competed together at the UIL state tournament last year.

This year, the girls had advanced to regionals as the District 7-4A champions, placing first at that tournament on April 7-8 at Texas Christian University.

Also competing in the regional contest were Joel Rodgers in boys singles, Alex Jenny and Keely Taylor in girls doubles, and Peter Mueller and Beau Pritchard in boys doubles.

The state tournament is April 28-29 at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center at the University of Texas at Austin.

Interim head coach Denise Scott is assisted by Lori Bramlett.
