Students from Granbury High School excelled at the FCCLA state competition on April 10-12, 2014, in Corpus Christi.
“The students listened to award-winning guest speaker, participated in leadership tracks and educational tours, and competed in several events,” commented sponsor Connie Jesko.
In family and consumer sciences assessments, results were:
Consumer Math: Jeffery McGee, silver
Culinary Arts: Kaytelyn Ross, bronze
Education and Training: Leah Vermillion, silver
Etiquette: Rachael Post, gold
Two of the students also competed in Star Event Projects having advanced from the Region II meeting held February 7-8 in Waco. Leah Vermillion prepared a Teach and Train portfolio regarding a career to include a complete lesson/workshop plan. Meanwhile, Jeffery McGee entered the Chapter Service Project portfolio contest with an in-depth service project that makes a worthwhile contribution to families, schools, and communities to address and take action on a community need. Both required an oral presentation.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.
