Granbury High School junior Dakota Medlin received a Best Actor nomination for the 14th Annual Betty Lynn Buckley Awards for his role as the Scarecrow in the GHS fall theater production of “The Wizard of Oz.” The announcement was made on April 25, 2014.
The awards program is named after the Fort Worth native and Casa Mañana alumnae, who won a 1983 Tony Award for her best featured actress role as Grizabella in Cats. In addition to her theater and film credits, Buckley is well known for starring in the television show “Eight is Enough.”
Having promoted and celebrated excelled in high school musical theatre since 2000, the program honors student musicals and plays from Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise counties. A panel of judges comprised of local theater professionals and educators will vote for the winners in thirteen categories. Awards include scholarships for the winning students.
The awards ceremony is Thursday, May 22 at Casa Mañana.
