FORTY-SIX RECEIVE DIPLOMAS AT STARS ACADEMY GRADUATION

STARS Academy held Spring graduation exercises on the evening of June 5, 2009, at Acton United Methodist Church.  Forty-six students received high school diplomas during the ceremony.

 

Brittany Stanley delivered a speech on behalf of the graduating class.  Others participating in the program were Faith Olson and Will White.  In addition, Granbury High School choir director Joy Hope provided music for the procession and recession of the graduates.

 

Representatives of local service clubs and organizations presented scholarships to four students.  Those receiving scholarships were:
  • Caitlin Graves (December 2008 graduate):  Signature Kids Scholarship
  • Caitlin McAllister:  Hope Scholarship
  • Brittany Stanley:  Granbury Lions Club Scholarship, Hood County Christmas for Children Scholarship
  • Deana Strain:  Granbury Optimist Club Scholarship 

Principal Edwin Young presented the diplomas to the graduates.  School board president Dr. Barbara Herrington transferred the tassel for each student, who was also congratulated by Superintendent William Harris.  Following the awarding of diplomas, the students presented roses to family members, friends, and others that helped them reach graduation.

 

The graduates receiving their high school diplomas were:  Christopher Coty Barber, Amandia Darlene Black, Hannah Elizabeth Blake, Courtney Brianne Bryars, Uzziah Jerome Bussie, Kimberly Rose Carder, Justin Cheyenne Carmack, Jose Edward Ciper, Astin Cade Cornwall, Lucas Paul Cote, Brittany Renae Cotton, Cody Scott Cutlip, Randy Wayne Davidson Jr., Courtney Jean Dixson, Tyler Glenn Durant, Zachary Lane Filler, Audra Rose Flowers, Shyann Nichole Fulton, Matthew Vincent Gallegos, Jessica Esther Alyn Gil, Paul Joseph Hoskins, Aletha Dawn Ives, Thomas James Jenkins, Malcolm Brent Johnson, Matthew Daniel Jones, Ryan Thomas Kasell, William Colby Kruetzer, Caitlin Tierney McAllister, Michael Lee McCoy, Miles Weldon McLain, Joshua Aaron Miller, Jeffrey Ross Novak, Misti Dawn Neufeld, Faith Michelle Olson, Keri Michele O’Neill, Jodie Rae Phillips, William Glenn Roberts, Cheyenne Autumn Robinson, Shelby Lloyd Shelton, Angelia Page Sherwood, Brittany Nicole Stanley, Deana Haruyo Strain, David Michael Wade, William Marshall White, Zachary Dawson Whitley, and William Keith Wooten.

 

A reception following the ceremony was hosted by the Agape Sunday School class from Acton Baptist Church.

 

An alternative academic high school that is part of Granbury ISD, STARS Academy provides an optional setting with flexibility and personalized self-paced courses for high school students whose needs are not met in the traditional school.  The acronym stands for Self-Motivated Teens Achieving Responsibility and Success.

 

Thirty-three students received their diplomas at the Fall graduation held in December 2008, bringing the number of graduates for the 2008-09 school year to 79.  Over seven hundred have graduated from STARS Academy since its founding in 1994.
