Acton Middle School seventh grader Jacob Taylor recently won an essay contest sponsored by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Taylor, who is a pre-Advanced Placement history student, placed first among eighty entries in the local competition sponsored by the DRT's Comanche Peak Chapter. His essay also went on win first place at the organization’s district level.
The topic for this year’s contest was “The Angel of Goliad” in reference to a Mexican woman who assisted soldiers during the Texas Revolution.
