Audra Ward, a 2010 graduate of Granbury High School, was recognized by U.S. Representative Chet Edwards during community Memorial Day festivities on May 31, 2010.

Ward received an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.  She ranked sixth in the high school’s recent graduating class.

At the academy, she will be joining her older sister, Alexa Ward, who is a 2009 GHS graduate.

In his remarks, Congressman Edwards acknowledged the sacrifice of Armed Forces personnel in defending the country.  He introduced the Ward sisters as representing the future of the nation’s military.

In addition to the younger Ward, 2010 classmate Kelly Rapp will be attending the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.  Rapp was unable to attend the Memorial Day ceremony.

Other Granbury students also participated in the festivities held at the historic Hood County Square.  A color guard unit from the GHS Marine Corps JROTC marched in the parade. In addition, trumpeter Andrew Collins – now a freshman after completing the eighth grade at Acton Middle School – performed “Taps” at the conclusion of the program.
