GHS STUDENT ATTENDING SUMMER LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
May 27, 2010
Granbury High School junior Danielle Cullison will be attending two youth leadership programs during the summer.
On June 13-19, 2010, Cullison will be attending the Bluebonnet Girls State on the campus of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, the purpose of the program is to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship.
The week-long program features a mythical 51st state in which participants organize their own city, county, and state governments. The students elect their own officers and then introduce and debate bills in a mock legislature. The program concludes with a visit to the Texas state capitol building in Austin where the girls are given an opportunity to sight-see and meet state officials.
Girls State citizens are made up of excellent high school students from across the state. They are selected to participate based on nominations by their high school faculty and staff.
Following that, Cullison will be in Waco for Baylor University's Christian Leadership Institute on June 24-27. Through the program, students learn how to succeed by making effective decisions that enable them to balance the demands of class work with extra-curricular activities and meaningful relationships.
