PIRATES PICKED FOR FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS IN 2011

June 22, 2011

Dave Campbell's Texas FootballThe Granbury Pirates could be headed back to the Class 4A football playoffs, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.

The magazine hit newsstands in June 2011 just two months before the beginning of the football season.

For District 7-4A, Campbell predicts the following order:  1. Everman, 2. Mansfield Summit, 3. Arlington Seguin, 4. Granbury, 5. Crowley, 6. Burleson, 7. Cleburne, 8. Joshua.

“I think that’s really some nice recognition, and we appreciate it,” said head coach Scotty Pugh, who will be in his fourth year in Granbury.  “But it’s really not how you start but more how you finish.  The thing that we are going to emphasize is that we were picked eighth last year.”

Eleven starters (seven offense and four defense) are returning from the 2010 squad, which advanced to the Class 4A Division I playoffs.  It was the first bi-district appearance since 1977 – and the first post-season play since 1987, when the team competed in a zone playoff game.

Last year, the district playoff contenders were Everman, Summit, Crowley, and Granbury.
