GRANBURY ISD SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNIZES STATE SPEECH STUDENTS
June 21, 2011
The Granbury ISD school board recognized three Granbury High School students for their participation in state speech and debate tournaments. The trio was honored at the school board meeting on June 20, 2011.
Hunter Beck had the distinction of advancing to both the Texas Forensic Association state contest and the University Interscholastic League state academic meet. He competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the TFA contest held in March at Flower Mound High School. Beck later participated in informative speaking at the UIL state competition held in May at the University of Texas at Austin.
Also attending the TFA state event was Leah Derrington, who was selected by speech and debate coach Shyller McGuire to represent GHS as a senator in the Student Congress competition.
Andrew Smith advanced to the UIL state contest in poetry interpretation.
Beck and Derrington will be GHS seniors in the 2011-12 school year, while Smith recently graduated with the Class of 2010.
