The Granbury Optimist Club recently presented $5,000 to Operation School Supplies, a local charitable organization that provides free school supplies to Hood County schoolchildren from families with economic need.

Operation School Supplies board member Virginia Conner, who is also the group’s volunteer coordinator, updated Optimists about the program during the club’s weekly breakfast meeting on June 7, 2011, at the Granbury Church of Christ.

OptimistApproximately 47% of Granbury ISD students are on the federal free school breakfast and lunch program.  That serves as the main eligibility criteria for the school supply program.

Operation School Supplies also sponsors the Healthy Kids summer lunch program, which is currently underway providing hundreds of meals each day during the summer months to these same children.

The Optimist Club supports local schools and numerous youth organizations.  The group also awards several scholarships to Hood County graduating seniors, who are also recognized by the group’s Young Texan and Young Tex-Anne program.
