Granbury choir and band students from Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center recently excelled at the UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest held May 28 and 30, 2011, in Austin.

Soloists Carolyn Watson and Blake Bridges led the group by earning Division I superior ratings.  Watson, a senior who graduated with the Class of 2011, was named an outstanding soloist.  A GHS junior, Bridges has been selected for the TMEA all-state choir for the past two years and was chosen as an outstanding soloist at last year’s state solo and ensemble competition.

Also earning top marks with a Division I was a madrigal composed of Cindy Adams, Josh Carpenter, Aubrey Caudle, Blair Cowden, Ivory Good, Nathaniel Milson, Victoria Townsend, Grant Watts, Chase Whittet, and Natalie Willingham.

Receiving Division II excellent ratings were band member Zach Morgan for a French horn solo and choir soloists Krystyn Buchanan, Josh Carpenter, Christian Carvajal, Aubrey Caudle, Kaitlan Fee, Alexandrea Gonzalez, Kaigen House, Colton McCoy, Kailee Mhoon, Nathaniel Milson, Alysia Murphy, Ryan Rodriguez, Micah Schexnider, Haley Shelton, Carlye Thornton, Victoria Townsend, Tyler Welch, and Chase Whittet.

Two choir groups also received excellent ratings:

• Girls’ Small Vocal Ensemble:  Brooke Goodson, Kailee Mhoon, Aubrey Reinhardt, Carlye Thornton
• Madrigal:  Krystyn Buchanan, Ashton Goodson, Ashley Graves, Ben Hughes, Zachary Guillory, Sophie Mullen, Kailee Mhoon, Alexandria Reid, Abby Ritchmond, Kwaun Shaw
• Madrigal:  Christian Carvajal, Ryan Grant, Zoe Naifeh, Hannah Olson, Jacob Mathis, Maria Oviedo, Jessica Taylor, Joseph Townsend
