A new set of drum majors will be leading the GHS Pirate Band for the 2011-12 school year.

Senior Ian Bird is the head drum major and will be assisted by senior Emily Hiler and junior Phoebe Wallace.  Bird was also a drum major last school year.

The 2011 marching show is “A Child’s Garden of Dreams.”  Band members have set high expectations for themselves, since Class 4A schools are eligible to advance to the UIL state marching contest this year.  Having earned a Division I superior rating in marching for the last several years, the band also achieved sweepstakes recognition in 2010 with top marks also in concert and sight-reading.

The band will progressively add more movements to football halftime shows as the students work toward invitational marching festivals in early October.  The regional marching contest, which is the first stage in the UIL competition, is set for Saturday, October 22 in Burleson.
