Four students at Brawner Intermediate School were rewarded for hitting an important fitness milestone through the Miler’s Club in physical education class.

Fifth grader Ryan Morales and third graders Daniel D’Souza, Crystalangelie Torres, and Blake Wann were the first students to pass the fifty-mile mark during the 2011-12 school year.

Through the Miler’s Club, students are challenged to run or walk miles on the school track and then are recognized when they complete certain distance benchmarks.

Altogether, Brawner students have run or walked over 8,175 this school year.  PE teacher Patty Phillips is encouraging the students to remain active even during cold weather.

During a special Scarecrow Scamper on October 28, students completed 5,175 laps – the equivalent of 862 miles.  Local business supporting the event included Brookshire’s, Lake Granbury Medical Center, and Modern Woodmen of America.
