PIRATE SOCCER TEAM WINS SECOND TOURNAMENT

Pirate Soccer

 

The Pirate Soccer team from Granbury High School scored its second straight tournament championship, winning the Tournament of Champions held January 19-21, 2012, at Aledo High School.

 

The Pirates triumphed in the final game, defeating the host Bearcats 2-0.  That win followed victories over Fort Worth Paschal (3-2) and Keller Timbercreek (4-0).

 

This championship followed the boys earning the tourney title at the West Texas Invitational hosted in Abilene on January 13-14.

 

Meanwhile, the Lady Pirates rallied to defeat Brownwood 4-0 in their last game.  The girls had fallen to Weatherford (0-1) and Fort Worth Arlington Heights (1-3) in their first two outings of the tournament.

 

Pirate varsity players are Scott Baker, Christian Carnes, Erick Espinosa, Dylan Francis, Erick Garcia, Aaron Gentry, Shaun Gomez, Taylor Green, Ryan Hammonds, Edgar Hernandez, Michael Horn, Tyler McKenzie, Julio Moreno, Zach Oakley, Zach Payne, J.P. Perriello, Matt Rose, Thomas Schloeman, and Patrick Vasquez.

 

The Lady Pirates are Kim Bantz, Sydney Barnette, Mallory Bersi, Aubrey Caudle, Bailee Dawson, Ashley Dyson, Alex Grossman, Ashley Harris, McKenzie Harrison, Riley Hatch, Courtney Heathington, Hannah Hiler, Maggie McKenna, Lily Middleton, Tess Miller, Courtney Phillips, Sarah Phillips, Gentry Railsback, Lydia Rife, and Kelci Slaughter.

 

Coaches are:  Pirates – Doug Kissinger, William Freeman, Ryan Ellis; Lady Pirates – David Winkleman, Leah Haley, Becky Grohman.
