The Granbury High School Pirate Band won sweepstakes for the second-straight year after receiving Division I superior ratings at the UIL Region 7 east  zone concert and sight-reading contest held April 18-19, 2012, at Burleson High School.

The varsity wind ensemble received superior ratings from the judges in both the concert and sightreading performances. Combined with the regional marching contest in October 2011, the band won the top prize with Division I ratings in all three parts of the music competition.

For the concert, the wind ensemble was led by Mark Eastin and performed “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger, “Overture (from The Italian Girl in Algiers)” by Gioachino Rossini, and “Suite Dreams” by Steven Bryant.

The junior varsity concert band, under the direction of Scott Johnson, received a superior rating in sightreading and a Division II excellent rating for its stage performance of  “A Tribute to Grainger” by Percy Grainger and arranged by Chalon Ragsdale, “In the Shining of the Star” by Robert Sheldon, and “El Relicario” by Jose Padilla and arranged by Robert Longfield.
