GHS PIRATE BAND MEMBERS RECOGNIZED AFTER SWEEPSTAKES YEAR

Members of the Granbury High School Pirate Band received awards during a banquet on May 18, 2012, at GHS.
 
Band members celebrated earning sweepstakes recognition this year, after earning Division I superior ratings in each of the musical areas – marching, concert, and sight-reading.
 
Recognized were drum majors Ian Bird, Emily Hiler, and Phoebe Wallace as well as colorguard captain Mariah Rendeiro.
 
Several awards were presented:
  • John Philip Sousa Award: Sarah Smith
  • Wind Ensemble: Hunter Beck, outstanding senior; Zach Morgan, outstanding junior; Ashleen Atchue, outstanding sophomore; Alissa Jillson, outstanding freshman
  • Concert Band: Brook Kuberski, outstanding senior; Bryton Chain, outstanding junior; Megan Baker, outstanding sophomore; Kendon Parker, outstanding freshman
  • Percussion: Justin Kochis, outstanding overall member; Sam Tyra, outstanding senior; Ross Backus, outstanding junior; Chandler Chiappe, outstanding sophomore; Josh Musser, outstanding freshman
  • Marching: Lilly Tunnell, outstanding marcher; Katelyn Tigner, most improved
  • Colorguard: Cheyenne Redden, most improved
Next year, the marching band will be led by drum majors Phoebe Wallace, Ashleen Atchue, and Katelyn Tigner.
 
The students are under the direction of Mark Eastin and Tahlequah Kirk, Acton Middle School directors John Morgan and Scott Johnson, Granbury Middle School directors Tim Stevens and Roger Ramsey, and colorguard instructor Robert Holloway.
