Zach Morgan and Joe Norton, French horn players in the GHS Pirate Band, helped set a world record at a musical event at the University of North Texas on May 19, 2012.

The two Granbury band students were among French horn players from all over the world attending the International Horn Symposium at the UNT campus in Denton. The ensemble premiered “Fanfare for a Thousand” by Texas composer Sterling Procter, and the program also included Di Lasso’s “Echo Song” and Beethoven’s “Prayer Op. 48 No. 1.”

The goal was to have a thousand horns, according to Morgan’s father – John Morgan, band director at Acton Middle School. 423 registered and were verified in attendance, but over six hundred actually performed.

The previous Guinness world record for a French horn ensemble was 264.
