STARS Accelerated High School held spring graduation exercises on May 31, 2012, at Acton Baptist Church. Twenty-seven students received high school diplomas during the ceremony – marking the ninth hundredth student to graduate from the school since its founding in 1994.
Principal Edwin Young presented the diplomas to the graduates. Superintendent Ron Mayfield congratulated each student, whose tassel was transferred by school board president Charlie Cloud. Following the awarding of diplomas, the students presented roses to family members, friends, and others that helped them finish their high school education.
The graduates receiving their high school diplomas were: Michael Thomas Adams, Kyle Logan Bailey, Bren Colette Cleveland, Ashley Nicole Cummings, Mary Helen Davis, Brittany Dawn Dockal, Melinda Rayann Dry, Scott David Followill, Ashley Faye Gaston, Allison E. Groose, Kathylyne Paige Haskett, Bridgett Kay Huckabee, Kara Denae James, Michael Frank Katz, Cory Daniel Keen, Ramon Alberto Lozoya, Alan Michael Moore, Amber Nicole Morgan, Miranda Laverne Picciolo, Sara Ashley Riale, Jose Carlos Sabat-Bonilla, Cole Nathaniel Samford, James Ellis Shelly, Brittany Irene Simmons, Aron Curtis White Jr, Michael Dwayne Young, and Scott Allen Yrdanoff.
Three – Davis, Katz, and Shelley – were graduates from the school’s adult high school held in the evening.
Three others were recognized for completing the GED program: Jonathan Adair, Chayla Falorca, and Critter Sheller.
A reception following the ceremony was hosted by the church’s Agape Sunday School class.
An alternative academic high school that is part of Granbury ISD, STARS provides an optional setting with flexibility and personalized self-paced courses for high school students whose needs are not met in the traditional school. The acronym stands for Self-Motivated Teens Achieving Responsibility and Success.
