Long-time school board trustee Charlie Cloud recently submitted his resignation effective on June 30, 2012.
Cloud has served on the school board since May 2001. He is serving his fourth term after winning re-election in May 2004, May 2007, and May 2010. Cloud has served as board president three different times during his eleven-year tenure – including the past year. In this leadership role, he has led the board through the last two superintendent searches.
“I have really enjoyed my time on the school board,” Cloud stated. “We’ve continued toprovide a quality education while holding the line and not increasing the tax rate. The district has met or exceeded the measurements set by the state, while the state has continued to reduce funding for public schools.”
He continued, “It’s been very rewarding and frustrating at the same time, but I had made some lifelong friendships over the years.”
Cloud is a major with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, a state agency that regulates all phases of the alcoholic beverage industry in Texas. In addition to his school board service, he has been involved in community and political affairs for many years. He is moving to Weatherford, and will continue to work for the TABC.
Fellow school board trustees have called a special election for Tuesday, November 6 for a one-year term to fill the vacancy. The special election coincides with the regular election for two other positions.
