GRANBURY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT WINS AREA SPELLING BEE
January 23, 2007
Stefanie Mundhenk, a seventh grader at Granbury Middle School, won the Area Spelling Bee held on Tuesday, January 23. The contest pitted winners from six campuses, and Mundhenk emerged the victor after seventeen rounds.
Runner-up for the contest was Sydney Carpenter, a fifth grader at Mambrino School. Other competitors were: Justin Kochis, a fifth grader at Brawner Intermediate School; Christian McClain, a second grader at Acton Elementary School; Zach Morgan, a seventh grader at Acton Middle School; and Mikayla Simpson, a fourth grader at Oak Woods Intermediate School.
As the representative of Granbury ISD, Mundhenk will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held on March 5 at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth. That contest will feature 33 contestants who won at the area level. The regional winner will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition to be held in Washington, D.C. in May.
Sponsored by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the campus and area spelling bees were open to all students under the age of sixteen who had not passed beyond the eighth grade.
